Many people, especially those that live in dry and cold climate areas find they need a humidifier for their home. A humidifier increases moisture, and depending on the type you have, can produce moisture in one room or a whole house. Point-of-use humidifiers are geared toward the single-room use where whole-house humidifiers work in conjunction with a home’s heating and cooling system (HVAC).

Point-of-use or one-room humidifiers are most widely used by people who suffer from dry skin and throats, sinus problems, allergies, asthma, nose bleeds, and even to protect wooden furniture and pictures within the home from becoming dried out. Homes with fireplaces that are constantly burning are also good places for humidifiers. Humidifiers come in two types, cold and hot and force steam into the room produced by the water in the reservoir of the unit. A good guide level for the humidity in any room is between 30% and 40% and humidifiers are effective in helping to regulate those levels.

Honeywell makes a good line-up of humidifiers, both cold and hot, depending on which type you want and each has advantages and disadvantages. You can even buy a Honeywell whole house humidifier which does the entire house.

Honeywell Warm Mist Humidifier

Hot air or warm mist humidifiers generate a warm steam that is effective in putting humidity back in the air. Honeywell has long been known for selling hot air humidifiers that are very silent—something not all humidifier manufacturers can claim. You can easily hear your television and sleep while a Honeywell unit is running. Hot or warm mist humidifiers can, however, affect things like wallpaper in a room and can make it come loose or become unglued.

Beyond proving moisture to dry air, Honeywell’s units help to purify the air and trap small particles of dust and smoke through filtering systems and come in a variety of modes. A Honeywell steam humidifier (called a Quicksteam unit) come in both 30 and 40 gallon units and are good for rooms all the way up to 1,050 square feet. They also make models that have adjustable controls and remote controls and advanced high-technology models that can kill up to 99.999% of tap water germs—all Honeywell units recommend regular tap water to fill them. The Quicksteam units do not require replacement filters and feature options such as automatic shut off, dishwasher safe medicine cups, moisture output settings, are easy to clean and fill, and can run up to 24 hours with on one water tank fill-up.

Honeywell’s QuietCare Advanced UV Tower Humidifiers use ultraviolet technology that sanitizes water and reduces germs, bacteria, and mold. A Honeywell quietcare humidifier does require the consumer buy replacement filters at recommended intervals, which are an additional expense. These are very quiet and require little maintenance beyond the purchase of filters, however, Honeywell tops the market in replacement times—most of their models will run for three years on a filter before replacement is needed.

Honeywell Cool Mist Humidifier

Cold air or cold mist humidifiers are just as effective and are good at maintaining humidity levels. Because they release a cold air mist, they can make a room colder while still effectively providing necessary moisture. Honeywell makes a variety of models including a great nightstand personal humidifier good for colds and flu. With models that have two to eleven gallon tanks, most of the Honeywell cold mist humidifiers offer their advanced technology humidification system and some models are good for areas up to 2,400 square feet.

All of the Honeywell cold mist humidifiers require filters or cartridges to help rid the air of germs and bacteria and some are programmable, have adjustable controls, and can run anywhere from 12 to 24 hours on a single filling. With Honeywell’s technology, although filters and cartridges do need to be replaced at varied times, depending on model purchased, their filtering systems tend to last a lot longer than other manufacturer models.

Where to Buy

You can buy Honeywell humidifiers in most discount retail stores, home improvement stores, hardware stores, and online at various websites. Retailers who have eBay stores also sell the Honeywell line at discounted prices.

Whether you choose a hot or cold mist humidifier, they will both produce the needed results of keeping the humidity in your room at good levels. The benefit of buying a Honeywell model is the lack of irritating noise—they are quieter than most, which is often the most desired feature for consumers when choosing a humidifier.
